Friday Faves: Circle Circle Dot Dot

27 Apr

Pretty sure I read in the latest InStyle Magazine ( we all have our guilty pleasures! ) that polka dots are big for spring.  Maybe it’s the influence of Damien Hirst’s spot paintings.  Here are some more artists marking the spot!

Small Spots by Georgia Gray, acrylic on canvas, 10x20cm

Patterns With Purpose O by Paul Ecke, mixed media on panel, 48x60

Cut 11-034 by Michelle Y. Williams, metal/plexiglas, 15x15

#562 by Tory Cowles, mixed media, 48x48

Have a fantastic weekend!  If you spot some dots over the weekend, post a photo on the Artsy Forager Facebook page!

All images are via the artists’ websites, linked above.

For the past few months creating art with circles has been my focus. It’s amazing how many things one can do with circles! Thanks for sharing these! Love them!

Wonderful! Circles can be so versatile– heavy with symbolism, yet whimsical and fun, as well. Did you post the quilt on the Facebook page?

Lesley…you simply have to follow up this piece next Friday with a Fave about Cootie Shots! I’m not sure how you do that, but that would just rawk! –Chaz.

LOL! It’s funny, I hadn’t come up with a title yet and something on tv clicked a memory of the Cootie Shot chant for me and BINGO! 😉 Maybe I can find some artwork with cootie-like creatures?

Love these dots – thanks – as a textile designer of many years I call spots, stripes and checks my ‘staples’ – there’s so much to be done with them – have just made a gorgeous spotty butterfly design for a customer here.

Sarah, feel free to share any of your “spotty” designs over on the Artsy Forager Facebook page ( )! A few other folks have done so and I highly encourage it! 🙂

      Thanks for visiting!

Love these! Can’t quite give up my obsession with squares and grids, but intrigued…

Make a grid of dots! Or stick a circle in a square! 😉

    Other wonderful circlers:
    Andy Goldsworthy
    Chuck Close

and my personal favorite, Larry Ross

I’m familiar with Goldsworthy and Close, of course, Goldsworthy is one of those artists that made a big impact on my non-artsy husband. 😉 Thank you for the introduction to Larry Ross’s work!
