Friday Faves: Of Sea and Sky

18 May

In case you can’t tell by the blog’s background, I have a favorite color.  I love most of the blue family, but am always immediately drawn to the color turquoise.  Or, as my niece Kendall calls it “toy-quoise”.  So it should come as no surprise that my favorite artwork includes a heavy dose of my beloved hue.  Here are some turquoise favorites I’m digging this week:

Gypsy Blue by Erin Ashley

The Search For Green by Jeanne Opgenhaffen

Enhanced Sunspots After Galileo I by Rachel Brumer

Wish You Were Here by Josh Reames

Unobstructed Effort by Sharon Booma

Do you have a favorite color, Artsies?  Do tell!   And be sure to take some time to check out the artists’ websites, linked above.

Purple! One of my favorite pieces that I have is a purple monochromatic beach scene that I bought from a street vendor in St. Lucia.

Purple was my absolute favorite when I was 13 years old! That Christmas, every gift I received was purple. I think I overdosed on purple as a youngin’.😉

Hahaha! That’s happened to me before…

I love pink! And not a wimpy shy pink, but Schiaparelli shocking pink. I love it and even though I’ve been told by a gallery that it doesn’t sell, it seems to complete so many paintings and I keep using it.
I find it interesting that everyone who comes into the studio reacts to certain colours, I think we all have favourite colours, whether it’s conscious or not.

Love that shade of pink, too. Many of my favorite works of art have at least a little touch of pink– including yours!

Pink does sell in Amsterdam …

      • matateishi May 18, 2012 at 3:50 pm #

Ha, I’m off to Amsterdam. And I love Amsterdam anyway.

I’ve got a real soft spot for turquoise & greens. Biggest fave is warm glowing orange😀

Oh, I’m with you on the orange love! Turquoise & orange is a favorite combination of mine.

Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog. Blogging can be intimidating, but just be yourself and you’ll get the hang of it in no time!

Be sure to check back on Tuesday for the artist I’m featuring as my weekly contribution to Escape Into Life ( http://www.escapeintolife.com ). I think you’ll like the palettes!😉

Thank you for responding back;) I will definitely check out Escape Into Life….looking forward to it. Have a great weekend. One more thing…what part of the country are you in? I hope that is not too personal…I was just curious. I am in San Francisco. Take care;)

My husband works as a medical traveler, we’re originally from Florida but are currently traveling throughout the Northwest & West Coast. We’ve been in Coeur d’Alene, ID since December and will probably be here through the summer. Hubby just got his CA license last November, so we’re anxious to use it! I’ve never been to San Francisco, but would LOVE for him to take a job in or near there. 🙂

Oh wow. I have never been to ID but I know it is gorgeous. I used to live in Vail, Co (which was amazing) & have been in SF for almost 15 years. I am a Cliinical Nurse Specialist in Trauma and an RN but have recently decided to take a break from nursing and pursue my painting. We shall see where it leads me. If you ever need any advice about SF (where to stay, live, visit, etc…) feel free to let me know. I would be happy to suggest some places. Yes, this city is marvelous and gorgeous and cultural and I can’t see myself living anywhere else. You can be whomever you want to be here….and I can see a little peek-a-boo shot of the Pacific Ocean from my bedroom window;) I hope you and your husband are enjoying your Sunday. I look forward to seeing more of your art. Cheers!

Wow, that’s quite a transition going from the medical field to painting, but a very brave leap! Best of luck to you in your creative pursuits! Thanks so much for your offer of advice re: San Fran.. may definitely take you up on it if land there at some point.😉

    • Lesley May 19, 2012 at 7:59 am #

Yes! There is something very natural about the blue & green shades, even the more vibrant ones feel calming to me.

Leslie, you are a girl after my own heart…any shade of aqua sends me into a happy state!
