November Art Association Pinterest Contest!

12 Nov

Surprise!  This month’s Art Assocition contest is coming at ya a bit early!  With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up here in the US next Thursday, we thought many of our readers might be busy making pie & stuffin’ turkeys next Wednesday.  So Erin & I decided to hold our Art Association contest a week earlier than usual.  And it’s a good one!

If you’re new to Art Association here’s how it works– You create a Pinterest board around one work of art ( which we provide ), filled with anything and everything that pops into your mind while gazing at the catalyst piece.

Our “jumping off” art this month comes courtesy of artmuse.com, an online gallery website dedicated to bringing you beautiful artwork at accessible prices.  Sphere of Influence by Jennifer Chenoweth will provide some fantastic associations, don’t ya think?

October Art Associations Pinterest Contest!

17 Oct

Who’s in for some artsy pinning fun with Artsy Forager and Erin Cassidy of art social?   We’ve been gettin’ our pins on and are psyched to present a new Art Associations contest!

In case you missed the debut contest last month, here’s the gist– You create a Pinterest board around one work of art ( which we provide ), filled with anything and everything that pops into your mind while gazing at the inspiration piece.

For October, we’re associating with the piece below, Mailing ABQ 10-12 Lines by Kate Farrall.

Mailing, ABQ, 10-12 Lines by Kate Farrall

The prints from Kate Farrall’s Mailings to Myself series are made by sending un-exposed photo paper through the mail, allowing it to expose during its trip, and then developing it when it arrives.  Such a serendipitous way of art making!

But now for the real fun, the CONTEST!  Here’s how our little artsy mad scientist experiment will work–

Step 1|  We give you a piece of artwork, this month’s work is Kate Farrall’s Mailing ABQ 10-12 Lines ( above )

Step 4 | Follow both art social and Artsy Forager on Pinterest ( if you already are, you’re ahead of the game and doubly awesome )

Friday Finds: Galleries to Love

7 Sep

This whole economic mess has contributed to the loss of countless galleries around the US.  I know first hand what it is like to put blood, sweat and tears into one.  OK, maybe not blood, but plenty of sweat and tears, I assure you! 😉  I’ve heard some folks say that the old gallery model is a thing of the past, gasping for air, dead in the water.  But I believe in galleries!  And today, I’m featuring some brick & mortar galleries that are out there, doing it right.  These folks are hustling, marketing, selling and making magic happen for their artists and communities.  Put ’em on your list to check out, whether you can do so in person or online!

Diehl Gallery, Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Florida Mining Gallery, Jacksonville, Florida

Foster/White Gallery, Seattle, WA

Gallery Orange, New Orleans, Louisiana

Taylor de Cordoba, Culver City, California

**I’m so excited to finally get a chance to visit Taylor de Cordoba and all the other LA area galleries when Mr. Forager & I hit SoCal in October!  Can’t wait to drag him all over Los Angeles.

I hope you’ll check out these galleries when you’re in their respective cities– well worth the trip!  You can see more of my favorite artsy spots on my Pinterest board, Artsy’s Guide to Galleries.  Do you have a favorite gallery?  Let me know in the comments below!

Color Harvest: Orange & Indigo

23 Feb

While digging through my Pinterest inspiration boards, planning my features for next week, I noticed a color trend in a few of my pins.  It’s funny how our minds gravitate toward certain palettes some days, isn’t it?  Apparently, my eyes are loving the combination of orange and indigo these days!  I thought you might enjoy a few examples from my boards..
